Crafting Embroidered Pendants

The cooler weather means fewer outdoor tasks and more time spent indoors, which always opens the door for new projects and small resets around the house. This transition naturally pushes me toward winter crafting, seasonal cooking, and refreshing my living space. Recently, that shift led me to try a new sewing project: creating holiday-themed embroidered pendants. It started as a simple idea and turned into a fun way to stay creative while the garden rests.

With the garden work slowing down, I finally had the time and mental space to start experimenting with new sewing ideas. I’ve been wanting to try small, decorative projects that don’t take a lot of materials but still feel meaningful—and holiday-themed embroidered pendants ended up being the perfect fit.The process started on Etsy, where I found a set of machine-embroidery files designed specifically for small, detailed motifs.

Once I downloaded the designs, I picked out fabric that would hold the stitches well and match the holiday colors I had in mind. After running the designs through my machine, I trimmed each embroidered piece down to size and fitted them into small metal pendants. It took some trial and error to get the fabric tension and sizing right, but once everything clicked, the final pieces turned out clean, bright, and surprisingly polished.

Working on something this small was a nice change of pace. It didn’t feel overwhelming, and it gave me a chance to be creative without committing to a big project. Plus, having a winter craft to focus on made the shift from outdoor work to indoor time feel more intentional. The pendants added a seasonal touch to my home, and they tied in nicely with the other winter décor changes I’ve been making—another way this time of year helps me reset and refresh my space.

This slower season in the garden always gives me room to reset, and trying out these embroidered pendants was a good reminder of how much creative energy shows up when things quiet down. Between redecorating the house for winter, doing deeper cleaning, and working on small sewing projects like this, I feel like I’m clearing out physical and mental clutter at the same time.

The pendants were simple to make, but they brought a fresh spark to my winter routine and gave me something festive to look forward to. As the garden rests, I’m using this time to reset my home, explore new crafts, and prepare for the work—and growth—that will return in spring.
